Peter Toft

Peter Toft has a lifetime of involvement in the equine industry. He is a successful national and international competitor in North America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. He was a member of the 2005 World Endurance Championships silver medal team and was Australian Endurance Team Chef d'Equipe at the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Normandie France, as well as an international (FEI) judge and Royal Show judge.

Peter has owned and operated one of Australia's largest international equine businesses for more than 35 years, including a Government- approved export facility. He is a breeder, with stallions and mares in Australia, Europe and New Zealand and a trainer and owner of competition horses in Europe, Middle East, New Zealand and Australia.

Peter was a director of the Board of Equestrian Queensland (EQ) from 2009 to 2012, chair from 2012 to 2015 and vice-chair in 2017. His passion and expertise in horse welfare is internationally recognised.

Peter has been proactive in supporting whole of industry engagement and promoting a strong and sustainable equine industry through robust consultation with the horse industry, stakeholders and government. Under Peter’s leadership, biosecurity policy and best practice has been developed and adopted by horse industry and sporting bodies across Queensland and nationally.

Peter has held numerous roles on equine clubs for more than 40 years including event organiser, volunteer and sponsor. He has been a member of the Queensland Horse Industry Marketing and Liaison Group since 2008, and was elected president of the Queensland Horse Industry Alliance in 2017. As a member of the equine influenza Horse Industry Crisis Committee 2007-08, Peter was responsible for liaison between industry and regulators.

Peter is committed to enhancing a strong and transparent pathway for all EQ members from the initial introduction to equestrian pursuits through to WEG and Olympic levels. His priorities are to continue to build cohesion across the horse industry, represent EQ members’ interests and engage with government agencies and all industry groups.
