The Organisation

Equestrian Queensland is a member based not-for-profit sporting organisation that administers the Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and para equestrian, along with show horse, vaulting, carriage driving and interschool.

There are more than 3800 members, 300 affiliates and 5000 horses registered with Equestrian Queensland.

The organisation is governed by a Board and seven sport committees.

The Role

The Executive Director is responsible for managing the financial, operational, administrative and governance of the organisation and delivering the strategic priorities of the Equestrian Queensland Board.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a successful track record in managing similar organisations with a focus on effective governance, commercial acumen, innovative thinking, and managing complex stakeholder relationships.

The Executive Director reports to the Board through the executive (chair, vice-chair and finance director).

Skills Required

You are currently a tertiary qualified senior executive at a similar level and have developed your career and reputation through your ability to consistently deliver on goals and objectives to achieve outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will have an energetic style, excellent communication and proven stakeholder engagement skills.

Specifically, Equestrian Queensland is seeking applicants who have outstanding competency and skills to:-

  • Build and maintain relationships with the full range of stakeholders, including Equestrian Australia, state and territory branches, national committees, government, industry and sporting bodies.
  • Advise and assist Sport Committees in relation to contractual obligations, policy and procedure, disciplinary matters and other associated issues as they arise.
  • Lead and drive the implementation of the Strategic Plan.
  • Manage the reputational, governance, operational, financial and compliance and legal risks of the organisation.
  • Monitor and control the organisation’s performance and finances.
  • Drive a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organisation.

Your skills in negotiating in tough situations to win concessions without damaging relationships is vital.  The successful candidate will have proven experience in building a member centric organisation which is agile, encouraging and innovative.
