Information on Officials

ATTENTION EQUESTRIAN QUEENSLAND OFFICIALS

Due to the nature of the insurance coverage provided by the sport nationally for those that are involved in a volunteer capacity, if you are required to account for any expenses and associated fees owing to you as a result of the duties you undertake at any event via a tax invoice, to ensure maintenance of your volunteer status you MUST attach a Statement by Supplier (Hobby Statement) to any such invoice.  Failure to do so may impact on your status as a volunteer for the purposes of insurance should you have an accident while undertaking your officiating duties.

The attachment of the Hobby Statement indicates clearly you see any payment you receive for your services as being derived from a recreation interest or hobby, negating the need to provide an ABN or account for the payment as assessable income.

If on the other hand, you do record any fees you obtain through your involvement in this sport as assessable income, then you cannot for the purposes of insurance be classed as a volunteer and you will need to ensure you are protected through some other means at your own discretion.

This notice applies specifically to volunteers that are paid a fee for services provided.  If you only receive a payment related to expenses incurred then your volunteer status does not come into question in this instance.
