Horse Rider Fall Safety Training

The horse rider fall training program has been designed by Lindsay Nylund who competed in and coached gymnastics over a period of 20 years.

During this time he won 3 junior and 2 senior national all-around titles, represented Australia at World Championships and Commonwealth and Olympic Games. He won a silver medal in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada. Following this he coached male and female gymnasts at all levels from beginner to international level and was Head Coach for the WA Institute of Sport Men’s Gymnastics Program.

Lindsay's qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, a Science Degree (in Physical Education), with specialised knowledge of biomechanics, physiology of exercise and sport psychology, and advanced NCAS coaching accreditation in men’s and women’s gymnastics. He has significant experience in the design and implementation of training programs in different learning environments.

Lindsay has recently conducted introductory training sessions for over 300 riders from many disciplines and the feedback received has been very positive.

During this webinar, Lindsay will discuss the principles and some basic techniques that riders can learn to reduce their risk of injury in a horse fall incident including the following:

  • Fall times and response times
  • Emergency response action
  • Landing techniques
  • Basic rolling techniques
  • Skills progression and how much training is required.
