IQ Committee Update

With the upcoming Equestrian Queensland AGM and recent call for sport committee nominations, there are some changes to the IQ committee.

Interschool Queensland would like to welcome Megan Drynan to the committee as Show Horse Convenor, and also Rosie Turnbull as Treasurer (Rosie previously held a co-opted position on the committee).

We would like to thank the outgoing committee members for their dedicated service to interschool.

In accordance with Clause 36.5 of the Equestrian Qld Constitution, Tracey Sexton and Karen Morris must step down from the IQ committee as they have completed two terms. Tracey (Jumping Convenor) and Karen (Show Horse Convenor) have been passionate and dedicated members of the IQ Committee during their two terms (6 years). As well as being committee members, they are both also heavily involved with interschool as event organiser for school and regional competitions as well as having children competing in interschool, with Tracey remaining on the committee after her daughter finished interschool. Tracey and Karen will continue to support interschool in the running of events, and Karen has recently joined the Vaulting Qld committee. Tracey & Karen were jointly awarded the IQ Chairman’s Trophy this year, to recognise their valuable contribution to interschool.

Cindy Coggan recently advised the IQ committee that after the AGM she will be stepping down from her role as Showman Convenor. Cindy has been an integral part of interschool since its inception. She was a competitor at the first Inter High School Equestrian Competition which was run by Lorette Wigan in 1984, and has been involved in interschool ever since as a competitor, organising committee member and parent. Cindy has been part of various interschool committees for many years, taking on the role of State Showman Convenor in 2015.

Susan Donald took on the role of Vice Chair in 2016 and has been an active member of the IQ Committee and also the Wide Bay committee. With two young children in the sport, Susan has been passionate about increasing competition and education opportunities for interschool riders, and along with Karla Farrell organised the junior camp in 2017 which was a great success. Susan has taken on the role of Chair of the Wide Bay Regional Championships committee.

Karla Farrell resigned in October last year as Dressage Convenor but remained on the committee until a new convenor was found. Due to increased work commitments, Karla is unable to continue in this role but has taken on the role of secretary for the Wide Bay Regional Championships.

Amanda Allen joined the IQ Committee last year as secretary, however due to increased work commitments has advised the committee she is unable to continue in this role. Amanda has been extremely conscientious in her role on the committee and will continue to be involved with interschool in a number of ways.

We would especially like to thank the above committee members, and also the rest of the IQ & AIC committee for their hard work in putting together a phenomenal Australian Interschool Championships in 2017, which was held in Toowoomba. This took a lot of hard work from a very dedicated team, and the fantastic feedback received from all states raised the bar for future national events.

With these committee members leaving after the AGM in March, there are some casual vacancies on the IQ Committee that we are looking to fill. More information about these vacancies will be available soon.
