Dressage grading points

Please make sure you familiarise yourself with dressage grading points, upgrading points, and how they are allocated! There is nothing more disappointing than finding out you are no longer eligible to compete at a level, particularly coming into Championship season, because you have accrued too many points.

From 2017 grading points will be accrued at elementary and above (formerly from novice).

That means every time you compete at elementary or above in Official Competitive competition and score above 61% you WILL receive upgrading points. Once you have achieved 30 upgrading points at elementary or above you will no longer be eligible to compete in preliminary/novice classes. If you are graded elementary and begin to compete at medium or above you will begin to accrue upgrading points. Once you have achieved 30 upgrading points at medium or above, you will no longer be eligible to compete in elementary classes, and so on (note, you can only be graded one level at a time, so if you are ungraded and commence competing at advanced level and accrue 30 upgrading points at advanced, you will then be graded elementary. If you accrue a further 30 upgrading points, you will then be graded medium, and so on).

If you are regularly scoring in the high 60%'s or above it does not take long to point out of a level! Please keep a record of all your upgrading points to save yourself disappointment down the track!

The current grading system can be found on page 17 & 19 of the National Dressage rules.
