IQ Qualifiers for States

There have been three changes relating to qualifiers for States.

Combined Training

The number of qualifiers required for Combined Training in order to attend States was recently reviewed.

The IQ committee voted to increase the number of CT qualifiers required to 2, bringing this discipline into line with all other disciplines. This will be effective for the 2016 State Championships. The IQ committee are currently reviewing the 2016 IQ calendar to ensure there are sufficient qualifiers for all disciplines, and once this has been reviewed it will be published to allow you to plan your competition season.

Nationals

It was also decided that results from the National Championships will not be able to used as qualifiers for States. This was not a decision that was made lightly by the IQ committee, and the reasons behind this decision are:

  1. Nationals is an invitation only event, and whilst the IQ committee are extremely proud of all riders who are selected to represent the state, it was felt that as this event is limited to only a few riders that results from this event would not be accepted in future.
  2. School run IQ events continue to struggle to have sufficient numbers to make them viable, particularly those events that run in the second half of the year, and to continue with Interschool in its current format it is essential to support schools. By allowing results from Nationals to be counted as qualifiers for States, some riders may be able to attend States without attending any interschool events other than the previous years State Championships and National Championships.

Number of qualifiers required

The IQ committee also reviewed the school regions and the number of qualifiers required for these regions. It was decided that in addition to Central Qld, North Queensland and Far North Qld requiring a reduced number of qualifiers, that the Darling Downs & South West region should be divided according to the Education Qld sport regions and that those in the South West region will also have a reduction in the number of qualifiers required. This was based on the number of qualifying events that are available to members in this region. For a list of sporting regions and schools click here

The above changes will be amended in the 2016 Interschool handbook.

We thank you for your understanding with these changes. The IQ committee does not make these decisions lightly, and we hope this has given some insight into the reasons behind the decisions for these changes.
