David Finch - Chair of Equestrian Queensland

David Finch is the managing director of Finch Farm Training and Breeding Centre, home to an innovative international breeding program featuring imported and homebred stallions.

He is one of an elite group of National Coaching Accredited Standard level 3 accredited jumping specialist coaches in Australia. David is a national coach educator, former Equestrian Australia coach of the year and five-time Equestrian Queensland (EQ) coach of the year.

From humble beginnings of making his way through the ranks of bush pony clubs, camp draft arenas and old fashioned country shows, David has ridden and developed showjumping horses to World Cup standard. His journey with horses has taken him around Australia and to most parts of the world. Through his experience as a competitor, coach and breeder of horses, David brings to the Board of EQ a depth of industry knowledge and a diverse range of perspectives.

He has been a member of EQ for more than 30 years and served as a Director of the Board from 2008 to 2013, as vice chair in 2015 and chair in 2016 and 2017. David has been actively involved in ensuring EQ members’ interests are represented on state, national and international issues, including membership and rule reviews.

He coaches all levels of riders from beginners to World Cup level, and is particularly passionate about ensuring riders in rural and regional Queensland and the NT have access to top level coaching.

Encouraging and enabling people to participate in, and enjoy, the vast range of equestrian sports as well as investing in education and excellence are among his strategic priorities.
