Clive Gordon Baton Bearer for 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

We are excited that Clive Gordon has been selected as a baton bearer for the Cairns region in the Queen's Baton Relay for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

At 83 years of age, Clive has amazingly marked 70 years involvement in equestrian sports...beginning his career in the 1940's as a school aged show jumper, and continuing on in such roles as course builder, ring announcer for the Cairns Show, Atherton, Malanda, Mossman, Innisfail, Tully, Mt Isa, and Cloncurry Shows, harness race caller, and race caller for many far northern race tracks.

He's been involved with rodeos and pony clubs...and has been a mentor to many dozens of up-and-comers in the industry.

Over the years in the newspapers, he's been dubbed "the voice" and "the man with the mic"...and via that microphone over the decades, and more recently through the written word recording a vast amount of equestrian history, he has celebrated and highlighted the incredible achievements of so many throughout the equestrian arenas.

70 years of dedication, while at the same time living his passion, is an amazing achievement in its own right.

We encourage locals to get along and cheer Clive on next Friday 16th March at approximately 1.30pm.

The location is from 8 Pease Street to 172 Hoare Street in Manoora. Landmarks are Coles Caravan Park on Pease Street (he begins just past Coles Caravan Park, Hoare Street side) and the Childcare Centre on Hoare Street, which is his approximate finish point.
