Biosecurity Manual Changes Live as of 30 September

There are new and simpler procedures for horses travelling into the cattle tick free zone in Queensland.

These changes are now live in the QUEENSLAND BIOSECURITY MANUAL available on the DAF website.

Under the new improved framework horses may now travel to the cattle tick free zone on a clean manual inspection regardless of how they are managed, provided they are tick free before they enter the Queensland free zone.

Horse owners still have a General Biosecurity Obligation (GBO) not to spread cattle ticks, so if horse owners are not confident in manually inspecting their own horses, they must take the horse to an Accredited Certifier for a manual inspection prior to entering the Queensland free zone. People moving horses to the Queensland free zone may still choose to apply a chemical to their horses if they feel that is the best way to meet their GBO.

The requirements for horse owners to keep movement records has not change.
