Warwick International - Recap and Results

2016 Pryde’s EasiFeed Warwick International was held at Warwick Horse Trials, Morgan Park, over the October long weekend, Saturday 1 to Monday 3 October 2016.

The three-day event marked the return of the pinnacle Eventing Queensland event to the Equestrian calendar, and proved to be a challenging and triumphant return.

Competitors travelled from as far as Victoria, hopeful of qualifying for the Australian International 3DE to take place in November 2016, the pinnacle Four Star event for Australia.

A new course was in-play for the cross-country, extending in front of the Club House which provided terrific spectator vantage points for all of the action. Spectators were kept well-informed and entertained as Olympic medallist and Hall of Fame member Wayne Roycroft AM, provided on-course commentary.

Organisers and competitors did an outstanding job keeping the course and horses in top-form, as they faced all-possible weather conditions. Cold and windy Saturday proved challenging for Dressage, sunny and perfect Sunday for the Cross Country, and torrential down pour on Monday created what would be very challenging conditions for any Equestrian Show Jumper.

The top classes competed across all three days of the event, and all three class winners led into the final day.

Eleanor Osborne on My Locky, led from day two Cross Country and had a fault-free Show Jumping run to take out first place in CCN105. Second place: Beth Robertson on Fiesta Gardens, Third place: Kate Rogers on Global Victory.

Brett Cantle on Premonition (IMP) was one of the riders to watch over the entire three days, and his stand-out performance saw him take out the DavCar CCI One Star Champion. Second place: Finn-Patrick McCoy on Ostianato, Third Place: Chloe Sullivan on Rhyme Thyme. Chloe moved her way up from fifth to third place on the final day with a strong performance in the Show Jumping.

Special mention to Megan Cooper on Kelecyn Bam Bam, who was presented the perpetual Mark Myers Trophy for highest place Junior, finishing fourth overall in the One Star.

Stephanie Commens placed both first and second in the Inglewood Quarries CIC Two Star, on Monte Argo and Lucky Eight respectively. Third Place: Rebel Morrow on Believe Ice Queen. Both competitors deserve special mention because of the extremely wet conditions during the Two Star class on day three. The result was a big moment and achievement for Stephanie, who will now step away from the sport for twelve months.
