Mighty Maroons at the 2023 Australian Interschool Championships

We had 88 riders and 95 horses take on the long trip to Werribee to represent Queensland and compete at the 2023 Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships (Nationals) in Dressage, Jumping, Combined Training, Show Horse and Eventing at the pinnacle event for interschool participants.

Queensland team members demonstrated skill, determination, passion, and team spirit during the competition (and the long journey to Werribee and home again!). The Queensland team were regularly highlighted by event organisers about the commitment to their sport and their willingness to help out at the event. The Queensland team spirit was ever present, the support of each other was a stand out.

Queensland had some great results over the 4 days of competition, being placed:

  • 3rd overall team in Primary Show Horse
  • 1st overall team in Secondary Show Horse
  • 3rd overall team in both Primary and Secondary Dressage
  • 3rd overall team in both Primary and Secondary Combined Training
  • 3rd overall team in Eventing
  • 2nd overall team in Primary Jumping
  • 3rd overall team in Secondary Jumping

Thank you to all Discipline Captains and Vice Captains: Torra MacDonald, Lottie Ostwald, Phoebe McDonnell, Anastasia Topalov, Ella Forbes, Ellie Flower, Olivia Hewitt-Toms and Simone Sorensen, and also a huge thank you to all of the Discipline Managers:  Patrick Lowe, Sarah Hoolihan, Monique Searle, Kirani Heeremans and Piper Wise. Interschool Queensland and all of the team members greatly appreciate all of the help and advice you gave throughout the event.

Of course, our competitors wouldn't be as successful as they are without the support from their families, so we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of the families and supporters of the team!

A final thank you to the Organising Committee and host state, Equestrian Victoria, along with all the sponsors and competitors who enabled the competition to be a success.
