Driving Queensland supports any EA affiliated Club in Queensland (or in fact anywhere in Australia, working together with the EA State branch involved) to run events. Any Club can run Driving events, no matter if the Club is primary Dressage, Eventing, Showjumping, or any other discipline, or indeed multi-discipline. Some Dressage or other discipline Clubs will add some Driving classes in the afternoons, after people have finished riding. We are encouraging Dressage Judges to do the little extra training (most of it online) to become Driving judges.
Driving Resources for EQ Affiliated Clubs
Driving Queensland also has an equipment trailer with cones, a dressage arena, and some mobile obstacles, which any EQ affiliated Club may borrow, free of charge. Contact Equestrian Queensland for more information.
Events that are able to be run by EA affiliated Clubs can be -
- Closed 'Club' activities (for members of that EA affiliated club only),
- 'Participant' competitions (for athletes who are EA Participant or Competitor members, but the horses do not have to be EA registered), and
- 'Competitor' competitions (for athletes who are EA Competitor members, and whose horse/s also have full EA registration).
In fact any combination of all three can be run at any one event.
The classes recommended by Driving Queesland include the following -

- Participant Drive-2 Challenge Test,
- Participant Drive-1 Dressage and Cones,
- Participant Drive-2 Dressage and Cones,
- Competitor Drive-1 Challenge Test,
- Competitor Drive-2 Challenge Test,
- Competitor Drive-1 Dressage and Cones,
- Competitor Drive-2 Dressage and Cones.

Club classes, however, are at the Club's discretion, and should be focussed around where the members of that Club are at. There may be specific classes for small ponies, disabled/para drivers, beginner horses and/or drivers, junior classes, senior classes, whatever the Club decides, always keeping safety and horse welfare as the very top priorities. Long reining classes can also be offered, in the Drive-W Challenge test and in the Cones Course A.
Driving Queensland has a couple of extra tests Clubs might like to consider -
- Driving Queensland Drive-W Challenge Test - Designed for EA affiliated Club Use Suitable for singles of all heights, as well as pairs under 108cm. This test is designed for Disabled Drivers, but can be used for all drivers at EA affiliated Club events.
- Driving Queensland Drive-1 Challenge Test - For Small Ponies at Club Level designed for EA affiliated Club Use Suitable for all singles under 120cm or pairs under 108cm
Who can Drive in Closed Club Classes/Activities?
To enter an EA affiliated Club class, you must be a member of that Club.
Club memberships are usually quite inexpensive. Some Clubs offer different levels of membership, but no level of membership includes any personal accident insurance.
Many Clubs have yearly memberships or sometimes offer a 'day' / 'come and try' membership for a particular event. You must still fill out the paperwork and sign the indemnity forms.
If you are a Club member, it is recommended that you also have EQ membership for personal accident and public liabilty insurance. You can choose any level from Recreational and upgrade at any time throughout the year if you decide to give any 'participant' or 'competitor' competitions a try.
