Transitioning From Primary to Secondary Rider

We appreciate that the rules regarding riders moving from primary to secondary schools can be confusing and would like to clarify this process.

If a Year 6 rider is planning on competing at the same level for the rest of this year and the start of next year (to gain qualifiers for States) then they can continue riding for the remainder of Year 6 as a primary rider, and move into secondary classes when they move into Year 7. Providing they are riding at the same level, qualifying scores from both primary classes and secondary classes will be accepted as State qualifiers for these competitors.

However, if they are planning on competing at next years State Championships at a level that is ONLY available for secondary riders (for example Elementary Dressage) they can begin competing in secondary classes for the remainder of this year in order to gain sufficient qualifying scores for next years States.

Please remember that Eventing is based on age, not year level. For the minimum ages for Eventing, and State Qualifying Criteria for all sports please refer to the IQ Handbook.
