Scholarships for the Thoroughbred Industry Careers Cadetship

What is included in the Scholarship?

All Expenses paid for over the first 12 weeks of the course (Boot Camp) until you start working and earning an income - this includes tuition, accommodation and $1000 towards living expenses, valued at $7,000.

What is the Explorer Cadetship

The Explorer Cadetship Program is a 12-month stable and stud horsemanship program in the thoroughbred industry. It kicks off with a 12-week residential learning component of practical and theoretical training (Boot Camp), followed by two paid work-experience placements at a leading racing stable and stud farm.

You will be accommodated while you learn on the job, and for 9 months of the year, you will be earning an income while you learn. 

What you need to know

  • The program commences on 3 February 2020.
  • The program will take 12 months to complete and is made up of three parts: Boot Camp (3 months), Stable Work-Placement (4.5 months) and Stud Work-Placement (4.5 months).
  • The program will take 12 months to complete.
  • Successful applicants will need to demonstrate a passion for horses, animals and/or racing and a level of equine experience or passion through the application process to be considered for the program.
  • The program will involve riding and physical work, so students will need to be fit and healthy and have a strong work ethic and will to succeed.
  • ‘Boot Camp’ is conducted at TAFE NSW, Richmond Campus and work-placements are with leading stables and stud farms all over Australia (including Qld).
  • Cadets need to be 18 years or over at the commencement of the program and 24 years or under.
  • Thoroughbred Industry Careers will supply Cadets with a uniform to wear on excursions and filming days. The uniform consists of 3 x polo shirts, a vest, a wind jacket and a cap
