REMI STUD YOUNG RIDER SCHOLARSHIP 2016

The Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship is an annual Scholarship and is awarded to a very deserving Young Rider who has the talent and dedication in either dressage or eventing, but needs financial assistance to purchase a horse of their dreams. Cheryl from Remi Stud has put together a great team of Supporters to help make this dream come true for one lucky young rider.

This Scholarship is an amazing opportunity for a young rider to have entry into the equestrian industry with support from a variety of Supporters.  The Scholarship includes the ownership of a purpose bred Hanoverian weanling by either Lauries As or Fishermans Friend - two of the best performed Hanoverian stallions in Australia - plus the support package which includes feed from Prydes Easifeed, registration with Equestrian Queensland, marketing from Equestrian Australia, legal support from HorseForce, a saddle, bridle and saddlecloth from Edwards Saddleworld, 10 weeks training by Team Van Den Berge when the horse turns three years old, show product from Dr Show, riding attire from Belrock Equestrian, and Veterinary care from Westvets.  A total package valued at over $30,000.  The inaugural winner of this Scholarship in 2013 was Isabella Wilkinson-McIntyre and she received the beautiful colt, Remi Livingstone S by Lauries As.  We are very excited that ‘Doc’ is now under saddle and progressing very well under the tutelage of Team Van Den Berge, and will make his debut in the competition arena next year.

This year the Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship was awarded to GEORGE GROVER from Kingston in Tasmania.  George received the stunning colt REMI LORD OF THE VALE S by Lauries As (imp)/ Court Musician xx by Salieri xx.  Lauries As (imp) needs no introduction, but Pete is also from a very successful competition mare line, being the full brother to Remi Lord of the Dance (Australian Champion Foal), and Remi Lord of the Sun, (Champion 2 y/o All Breeds Youngstock Show), and 1/2 brother to EMC Remi Lady Locksley (Advanced Dressage Champion), Remi Faberge (Medium Dressage Champion), and Elite Mare Remi La Bamba (dam of successful progeny herself).  Pete as he is known, will no doubt suit George’s eventing and dressage aspirations.

George is a very dedicated young rider and competitor in the field of eventing, so we look forward to seeing him competing Pete in the years ahead.  Due to geographical challenges, this dedication presented itself in many ways, not the least needing to travel thousands of kilometres to support his dream if he was to compete on the mainland.  Living in Tasmania meant many hours on the road required to compete at any horse events.  George has been a member of the Huntingfield Pony and Riding Club since he was very young, and has also participated in many other equestrian disciplines over the years, including Polo, Mounted Games, Dressage and Showjumping, but Eventing is his first love.

George currently has one horse, a 17 year old eventer who unfortunately suffered from lameness problems this year, which is significantly limiting his involvement and progression in the sport.  Dedication and talent saw them competing successfully at Pre-Novice level last year, with hopes of moving up to 1*, however the lameness problems saw that dream shattered.   George is completing his final year of school this year, and is then hoping to make equestrian, in particular eventing, his career. Despite the geographical disadvantages, George has proven that he is prepared to do whatever it takes to make it in his chosen field.  Financially moving to the mainland would incur great expense not only to sustain himself, but to be able to forge a successful career in the equestrian world.  Equestrian sport in Tasmania has benefited from his achievements, his talent, inspirations of excellence, and sheer determination to be the best person and rider that he can be.  With young riders like George, our Equestrian sport will continue to prosper in Australia well into the future.  So this is where the Scholarship comes in.

Remi Stud, together with their Supporters (EQ, EA, HorseForce, Edwards Saddleworld, Team VDB, Dr Show, Westvets, Belrock Equestrian, and Prydes Easifeed) are delighted that George Grover is the lucky recipient of the Remi Stud Young Rider Scholarship in 2016, and we look forward to watching George and Remi Lord of the Vale S competing in the years ahead.  Hopefully they will emulate our wonder bronze medal Eventing Team in Rio this year!!  We also look forward to presenting the 2017 Scholarship winner at the Brisbane CDI again next year.
