IQ State Championships 2020

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our recent survey regarding the structure of the IQ State Championships. We received 108 responses, and received responses from riders in every region.

The results were as follows for the most preferred format:

  • 2 separate events approximately 2 weeks apart 38.89%
  • Combine into 1 event with 1 rest day in the middle 41.67%
  • Combine into 1 event with 2 rest days in the middle 14.81%
  • No preference 4.63%

The IQ committee gave serious consideration to the impact on horses & riders of staying with the existing format or combining into one event, with the consensus being to combine the State Championships in 1 event with 1 rest day in the middle. Unfortunately, when looking at the logistics for running the State Championships as one event there were significant challenges with securing judges for the extended competition dates which were available at the showgrounds within school holidays, and ensuring the event did not clash with other EQ events, and so the decision was made to keep the State Championships as 2 separate events for 2020 but to review for 2021.

The dates for the 2020 State Championships are:

Sunday 28 June- Wednesday 1 July (Dressage, Show Horse, Jumping, Showman)

Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 July (CT & Eventing)

Both events will be held at Toowoomba.

The IQ Committee would also like to thank everyone who gave feedback within the survey, and this will be considered in future planning of the event.
