Success for the Mighty Maroons at the 2018 AIC

More than 400 riders and over 2000 supporters, officials and volunteers from across Australia participated in the 2018 Marcus Oldham Australian Interschool Championships, with 79 Queensland riders and their horses making the trip to Werribee in Victoria to compete in Dressage, Jumping, Combined Training, Show Horse and Eventing at the pinnacle event for interschool competitors.

Queensland team members demonstrated skill, determination, passion, and team spirit during the competition (and the long journey to Werribee and home again!) with one Victorian family commenting "I wanted to say that you guys were amazing! So friendly, so team spirited! And so talented! Well done Queensland!"

Queensland had some great results over the 4 days of competition, being placed:

  • 3rd in both the Primary and Secondary Show Horse Teams
  • 4th Primary and 3rd Secondary Team in Combined Training
  • Reserve Champion Team in Eventing
  • 3rd Primary and Reserve Champion Secondary Team in Dressage
  • 4th Primary and Reserve Champion Secondary Team in Jumping.

Thank you to the Queensland Chefs d'Equipe Anna Starosta and Tracey Sexton, and Queensland Team Manager Nick Ballard for all of their hard work before and during the competition. Congratulations to Queensland Team Captain Emily Ballard and Vice Captain Kirsten Mackie for leading their fellow competitors during the 2018 AIC.

Thank you to all Discipline Captains and Vice Captains: Freya Domrow, Bridget Hegerty, Becky Gillan, Dominique Holtkamp, Holly Willmore, Ella McBain, Ellie Reedy, Saskia Hind, Sage Fisher-Peters and William Kropp, and also a huge thank you to all of the Discipline Managers: Megan Drynan, Janet Wilkinson, Mandy Gillan, Kirsten Riordan, Monique Searle, Sue Sampson and Rosie Turnbull. Interschool Queensland and all of the team members greatly appreciate all of the help and advice you gave throughout the event.

Of course, our competitors wouldn't be as successful as they are without the support from their families, so we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of the families and supporters of the team!

A final thank you to the Organising Committee and host state, Equestrian Victoria, along with all the sponsors and competitors who enabled the competition to be such a great success.
